Minatare is a small farming town of 700 people in western Nebraska's Panhandle, sitting on US Highway 26 about 15 miles northeast of Scottsbluff. The town serves as a quiet stop along the route that once followed the Oregon Trail, with Highway 71 intersecting here toward Wyoming. The area's claim to fame is its historic sugar beet processing facility, whose distinctive brick smokestack can be seen for miles across the prairie.
