Miles City sits where I-94 crosses the Yellowstone River in southeastern Montana, 144 miles east of Billings. Highway 12 provides north-south access while I-94 handles transcontinental traffic between Billings and Bismarck. The town serves as a natural rest stop on the northern plains route, with the airport just west of downtown. The Range Riders Museum contains one of Montana's finest collections of frontier artifacts and Charlie Russell paintings.
