Middle River is a small farming town in far northwestern Minnesota, about 20 miles from the Canadian border. Highway 1 runs east-west through town, connecting to Warren (25 miles west) and Thief River Falls (30 miles east), with Highway 220 providing north-south access. The community sits in prime agricultural country with flat prairie stretching in all directions. The town lies along the historic Ox Cart Trail that once linked St. Paul and Winnipeg.
