Miami Lakes is a planned community in northwest Miami-Dade County, about 20 miles from downtown Miami. Major routes include the Palmetto Expressway (SR-826) on the east side and I-75 to the west, with Miami Lakes Drive (SR-860) running through the center. From Miami International Airport, take LeJeune Road north to Miami Lakes Drive for the most direct 15-mile route. The city was built in the 1960s on former dairy land, and many streets still carry names from the original Pennsuco Dairy operation.
