Metaline is a tiny town of 150 people tucked in Washington's remote northeast corner, just three miles from Canada along the Pend Oreille River. Most visitors drive 90 miles from Spokane via US-2 east to Newport, then north on State Route 31 through the forested river valley. The town sits directly across from a massive cement plant whose industrial towers dominate the view.
