Mertens is a tiny farming town in Hill County, about an hour south of Dallas via I-35 and Highway 22. With just 125 residents, it sits among cotton fields and rolling prairie land. The town is famous as the birthplace of Audie Murphy, America's most decorated WWII soldier, with a historical marker on Highway 22 marking the spot.
