Meredosia is a small Illinois River town about 30 miles northwest of Springfield, home to 871 people in Morgan County. Route 104 west from Springfield provides the most direct access, while I-72 connects long-distance travelers from Chicago or St. Louis. The town sits where the river bends east through fertile farmland. Its historic swing bridge remains one of the few working railroad bridges that rotates to let river barges pass.
