Mena sits in Arkansas's Ouachita Mountains along US Highway 71, about 100 miles west of Hot Springs. This mountain town serves as a hub for the timber industry and outdoor recreation, with State Highway 8 providing east-west access through the region. The surrounding Ouachita National Forest offers cooler temperatures than the Arkansas lowlands. Mena's municipal airport has one of the state's longest runways at 6,400 feet, built for WWII military transport planes.
