Melvin is a tiny farming community of 139 people in Michigan's Thumb region, about 75 miles northeast of Detroit. Reach it via M-90, which connects to regional highways serving agricultural traffic and commuters heading to Sandusky or Croswell. The area features typical Great Lakes climate with snowy winters and warm summers. The old Pere Marquette Railway right-of-way still cuts a visible line through the surrounding farmland.
