McMechen is a small Ohio River town about 10 miles south of Wheeling via US Route 2. The city sits in a narrow valley where the river bends, accessible from I-70 through Wheeling or along the scenic riverfront highway from Moundsville. The massive abandoned Glen Dale Hospital complex dominates the landscape as one of America's largest former psychiatric facilities.
