McLain is a small Greene County town of about 400 people in southeastern Mississippi's pine country. US Highway 98 runs right through town, connecting to State Highway 57 for north-south travel. Most visitors use it as a waypoint when driving to larger destinations via Interstate 59 near Hattiesburg, about 45 miles north. The town sits along the Chickasawhay River, where the old highway bridge serves as one of the few river crossings in this part of the county.
