McFarland is a farming town of 363 people in eastern Kansas, about 25 miles southwest of Topeka. Take Highway 99 south from Topeka, then west on Highway 4 for the most direct route. From Kansas City, use I-70 west to the Paxico exit and follow local roads south. The town sits in rolling prairie between the Flint Hills and Kansas River valley, surrounded by cattle ranches and grain fields. Its 1870 one-room schoolhouse still stands as a piece of pioneer history.
