McCool Junction is a small farming town of 718 people in south-central Nebraska, positioned along Highway 34 between York and Hastings. The community developed around a railroad junction and remains connected by Highway 34 running east-west and Highway 14 running north-south. Most traffic consists of local trips to York (20 miles east) or Hastings (15 miles west), though the town also serves long-distance travelers on Highway 34 between Lincoln and Kearney. The massive grain elevator dominates the skyline and serves as a landmark for miles around.
