Mayfield is a small Pennsylvania borough of about 1,900 people located between Scranton and Carbondale in Lackawanna County. Take I-81 north from Scranton to Exit 199, then follow Route 247 into town. The drive covers about 12 miles through rolling hills along the Lackawanna River valley. You can still see old coal mine structures and remnants of the Delaware and Hudson Canal system that once moved anthracite through the area.
