Maxbass is a tiny farming town of 56 people in north-central North Dakota, about 15 miles from Canada. Take Highway 5 west from Bottineau or north from Minot via US-83 to reach this quiet agricultural community surrounded by wheat fields. The town was named after Max Bass, an early homesteader who helped establish the settlement when the railroad arrived in the early 1900s.
