Maumee lies along the Maumee River in northwest Ohio, just upstream from Toledo and Lake Erie. The Ohio Turnpike (I-80/90) runs north of town with easy access, while US Route 20 cuts through the city center connecting to Toledo and points east. State Route 25 provides the main north-south corridor. Toledo Executive Airport sits right in town, with the larger Toledo Express about 20 miles west. The city preserves Fort Meigs, a War of 1812 battlefield with reconstructed blockhouses overlooking the river.
