Marshall is a small mountain town along the French Broad River, about 20 miles northwest of Asheville via US 25/70. The highway follows the river valley through scenic Appalachian terrain, making it the main route for visitors and locals alike. NC 213 heads north to Hot Springs for outdoor enthusiasts. The town's claim to fame is its historic courthouse built on an island in the middle of the river, reachable only by footbridge.
