Marquez is a tiny East Texas farming community of under 200 people, located about 20 miles northwest of Centerville via Highway 7. The area sits in rolling cattle country with scattered oak trees and experiences typical humid subtropical weather. For longer trips, residents connect to Highway 79 about 15 miles south, then link to major routes toward Houston (90 miles via Bryan) or Dallas (150 miles via Huntsville). The town still operates one of Leon County's last working cotton gins.
