Marks is a small Delta town of about 1,400 people located 35 miles south of Memphis on Highway 61. The main route is straight down Highway 61 from Memphis, passing through flat cotton and soybean country. Interstate 55 sits about 20 miles east, reachable via Highway 6 or 278. The town made history in 1968 as the starting point for the Poor People's Campaign mule train to Washington, D.C.
