Markleysburg is a small Fayette County borough of 334 people along the historic National Road (US Route 40) in southwestern Pennsylvania's Appalachian foothills. Reach it via US 40 from Cumberland, Maryland or Uniontown, or take the scenic Route 281 from the north through farm country. The town sits in a peaceful valley with four-season weather and rolling hills typical of Pennsylvania's coal region. Its claim to fame is an original 1810s stone arch bridge on the National Road that still carries traffic today.
