Marinette sits on the Menominee River across from Menominee, Michigan, connected by US 41, the main north-south route. US 141 heads northwest to the Northwoods while Highway 35 follows Lake Michigan's shore toward Green Bay, 55 miles south. The area sees typical northern Wisconsin winters with snow and ice from December through March. The city features one of Wisconsin's last wooden water towers, built in 1889 and still supplying downtown.
