Maricopa is a tiny farming town about 35 miles southwest of Bakersfield, reached via Highway 58 west to Route 166. The area grows almonds and pistachios in the hot Central Valley climate, with the California Aqueduct running nearby. The old Southern Pacific Railroad depot still stands from when Maricopa served as a railway stop in the early 1900s.
