Marengo is a small farming community in McHenry County, about an hour northwest of Chicago via US Route 20. The town sits at the intersection of Routes 20 and 23, making it a convenient stop between Rockford and the Chicago suburbs. Most visitors pass through on Route 20, though some take scenic country roads from I-90. The restored 1895 opera house downtown still hosts live performances today.
