Marcus is a small farming town of about 1,200 people in northwest Iowa, sitting along US Highway 3 about 20 miles from Sioux City. The main routes are US 3 running east-west and State Highway 143 going north-south through agricultural country. The red and white checkerboard water tower serves as a distinctive landmark visible across the flat farmland.
