This tiny Colorado mountain town sits nearly 8,000 feet up in the Crystal River Valley, reached by a winding 28-mile drive south from Carbondale on Highway 133. The scenic route passes through aspen forests and red rock country, continuing past the ghost town of Redstone. Most visitors come from Denver (200 miles via I-70 and Glenwood Springs) or make day trips from Aspen area resorts. Winter snow closes access for months, but summer reveals the historic Yule Marble Quarry that provided pure white stone for the Lincoln Memorial.
