Mapleton is a small farming town in western Iowa, about 30 miles northeast of Sioux City via Highway 141. The main route from Sioux City takes I-29 north to Highway 141 east through agricultural countryside. Local roads like County Road K42 connect to nearby communities. The town's 1913 Carnegie Library remains one of Iowa's few original Carnegie libraries still functioning as a library today.
