Manistee is a lakefront city where the Manistee River meets Lake Michigan, about 90 miles from Grand Rapids via US-131 to US-10 to US-31. The main route from Chicago follows I-94 to I-196 to US-31 along the scenic lakeshore. The 1875 lighthouse still operates and offers public tours.
