Manhattan Beach is a tiny lakeside community of 25 people on Gull Lake, about 15 miles northeast of Brainerd via Highway 210 and County Road 77. From the Twin Cities, take Highway 371 north through Brainerd for the 130-mile drive through Minnesota's pine forests and lake country. The community gets its name from a small sandy beach that early settlers thought resembled Manhattan Beach in New York.
