Manassa is a small farming town in Colorado's San Luis Valley, surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan Mountains at 7,700 feet elevation. US Highway 160 is the main route through town, connecting east to Walsenburg and west to Durango, with Alamosa 25 miles northeast offering the closest major services. The town is famous as boxer Jack Dempsey's birthplace, and his childhood home remains on Main Street.
