Malibu runs 21 miles along the Pacific Coast Highway about 30 miles northwest of downtown LA. Most people drive PCH from Santa Monica or take Malibu Canyon Road over the mountains from the Valley. Traffic gets brutal on summer weekends, and LAX is about 45 minutes south. Surfrider Beach here is considered the birthplace of modern surf culture.
