Malden is a small farming community in Bureau County, about 15 miles south of Interstate 80 via Illinois Route 89. The town sits in Illinois River valley farmland, with Route 89 providing the main north-south connection and county roads linking east to US Route 51. Illinois Valley Regional Airport is 8 miles southeast for general aviation. The grain elevator along the railroad tracks serves as both a working agricultural facility and a visible landmark across the prairie.
