Maize is a small Kansas city of 6,800 people located just northwest of Wichita. US Highway 54 provides the main connection to Wichita, about 15 miles southeast, while K-96 offers an alternate east-west route. Most residents commute to Wichita via these highways and local roads like Maize Road. The city sits on typical Great Plains prairie and was named after the corn fields that once covered the area.
