Mahaska is a tiny farming town of 47 people in north-central Kansas, reached via Highway 148 about 15 miles from Washington, the county seat. Most visitors come from US-36, the main east-west route connecting Kansas City to Denver. The town sits in rolling prairie country and is home to a historic 1904 one-room schoolhouse.
