Magna lies 15 miles west of Salt Lake City in the Salt Lake Valley, accessible via I-80 west to Exit 104. The community developed around copper mining and sits between the Great Salt Lake and Oquirrh Mountains. Most traffic uses SR-202 and SR-111 for local connections, while I-80 provides long-distance access east and west. The massive Kennecott Copper Mine, one of the world's largest open-pit operations, dominates the southern skyline with its distinctive terraced walls.
