Maeystown is a 65-person German village about 45 minutes south of St. Louis, famous for its intact 19th-century stone buildings. Take I-255 south to Highway 156 west, then follow country roads through the Mississippi River bluffs. The 1881 stone mill still operates with original millstones and offers weekend grinding demonstrations.
