Madison is the county seat of Madison County in north-central Nebraska, accessible via US Highway 81 from Norfolk (20 miles south) or continuing north toward Wayne and South Dakota. Highway 32 provides east-west connections to smaller regional communities. The 1905 Madison County Courthouse with its distinctive clock tower dominates the town square.
