Madison sits on the Ohio River in southeastern Indiana, surrounded by limestone bluffs and 19th-century architecture. Take Highway 56 west from I-71 near Hanover for the main route from Louisville or Cincinnati. The downtown historic district features over 130 antebellum buildings as a National Historic Landmark. Each July, unlimited hydroplanes race at 200+ mph right along the historic riverfront during the Madison Regatta.
