Macon is the county seat of Noxubee County in east-central Mississippi, home to about 3,300 people in the Black Prairie region. Highway 45 runs north-south through town, connecting to Columbus 25 miles south and continuing toward Tupelo, while Highway 14 provides the main east-west route. The 1905 red brick and limestone courthouse dominates the town square and has served as the civic centerpiece for over a century.
