Macon is the county seat in north-central Missouri, sitting at the crossroads of US highways 63 and 36. The town serves as a hub for the surrounding agricultural area, about 100 miles from both Columbia and Kansas City. Most visitors arrive via US 63 from Interstate 70 or US 36 from Interstate 35. The historic courthouse on the town square dates to 1860 and remains one of Missouri's oldest working courthouses.
