Lynch is a former coal town in southeastern Kentucky's mountains, about 15 miles south of Harlan via US Route 119. The main access routes wind through Appalachian ridges, with longer trips typically connecting through US 23 from the north or the Mountain Parkway from central Kentucky. Portal 31, a restored mine entrance, takes visitors 1,500 feet underground in authentic mine cars.
