Luther is a tiny farming community of 159 people in central Iowa, about 15 miles northwest of Ames via Highway 17. Most visitors come from Des Moines (30 miles south via I-35 and Highway 17) or use it as a quiet base near Iowa State University. The old Lutheran church with its white steeple still marks the town center and gives Luther its name.
