Lucas is a tiny farming community of 145 people in south-central Iowa, about 45 miles south of Des Moines on Highway 65. It's mainly a quiet stopover between Des Moines and the Missouri border, with local roads connecting to Chariton and Russell. The town sits among typical Iowa corn and soybean country with gentle rolling hills. Lucas was named after Robert Lucas, Iowa's first territorial governor, and keeps a small historical marker in his honor.
