Lowden is a farming community of about 700 people in eastern Iowa's Cedar County. Highway 130 runs north-south through town, with County Road X40 providing east-west access. Most visitors come from Highway 30 to the north or I-80 about 30 miles south. The town's historic grain elevator towers over the surrounding cornfields and serves as a visible landmark for miles around.
