Longstreet is a tiny community in De Soto Parish near the Texas border, accessible via Louisiana Highway 5 from Mansfield or through Shreveport about 45 miles northeast. The area sits in Louisiana's piney woods region, distinct from the state's famous bayou country. Most visitors arrive via Interstate 49 and Highway 171 from Shreveport, while locals make short trips to Mansfield for services. The community is named after Confederate General James Longstreet.
