Longboat Key is a 12-mile barrier island between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, connected by bridges to Anna Maria Island and Sarasota. Most visitors take I-75 to SR-780 west or SR-64 through Bradenton, then follow Gulf of Mexico Drive along the island. The upscale community features beaches, golf courses, and the historic Longboat Key Club resort, built on a former WWII airfield that once trained bomber crews.
