Lonerock is a tiny Oregon wheat country town of 36 people in Gilliam County's rolling hills. Reach it via Highway 19 north from Fossil (25 miles) or Highway 206 from Condon. Most visitors come from the John Day area through Fossil, while locals make the 25-mile trip south to Fossil for supplies. The town's 1901 one-room schoolhouse still stands as a reminder of homesteading days.
