Lomax is a small Henderson County town in western Illinois, reachable via Highway 164 off US Route 34. From Burlington, Iowa, it's about 15 miles east on US 34, then south on 164. The town sits in flat prairie country near the Mississippi River, with US 34 serving as the main east-west corridor to Galesburg and other regional centers. One of Henderson County's few remaining one-room schoolhouses still stands here from the early 1900s.
