Lockport is a small Louisiana town of about 2,600 people situated along Bayou Lafourche, roughly 60 miles southwest of New Orleans. Highway 1 runs right through town and connects north to Thibodaux and Interstate 10, making it the main route for both local traffic and visitors from New Orleans or Baton Rouge. The town sits in classic bayou country with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Its defining landmark is the Lockport Locks, which control water flow along the bayou and allow boats to navigate between different water levels.
