Llano sits in the Texas Hill Country along the Llano River, about 100 miles northwest of Austin. Highway 29 runs east-west through town, connecting directly to Austin, while Highway 16 provides the north-south route to Fredericksburg. The town serves as Llano County's seat and draws visitors for its granite outcroppings, spring-fed river, and historic square. Llano calls itself the "Deer Capital of Texas" and hosts an annual Pink Granite Festival celebrating the distinctive rose-colored granite quarried here since the 1880s, which was used to build the Texas State Capitol.
