Livingston lies along Highway 99 in California's Central Valley, about 15 miles north of Merced. Most visitors arrive via Highway 99 or take Highway 140 west from the Bay Area through the Altamont Pass. The town sits amid almond orchards and dairy farms, with hot summers and mild winters typical of the valley. Highway 140 runs east-west through town toward Yosemite, making Livingston a natural stopping point. The town's water tower features a large mural of Yosemite's granite cliffs, visible from Highway 99.
